$450 Million Destination Resort Might Come To Kenner
The last massive development in Kenner was the Treasure Chest Casino close to 30 years ago. A destination resort development that would include condominiums, a hotel, restaurants, theatres and a marina has its eye on Kenner’s Laketown.
Last Friday officials announced that the new development is looking at Kenner. The project is spearheaded by Atlantis Gaming, a Las Vegas-based company that is interested in the 40-acre site. Celebrities such as NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon and former world champion boxer Roy Jones Jr. are supporting the project.
“This is a great day for the city of Kenner,” Mayor Ben Zahn said regarding the announcement.
Atlantis CEO Donald Bailey first noted the Laketown site in 2018 when he was working with Bill Dates, a businessman who lives in Kenner. In fact, the project was in the planning stages three years ago but COVID-19 put a delay on the project.
If all goes well, the project could begin as early as next year. Plans show 40-acres of recreational and living space. The majority will be built on eight specially constructed concrete barges. The first phases will most likely take four to five years to complete.
“It is a dream to see a lakefront that is vibrant,” said Jefferson Parish Councilman Dominick Impastato, whose district includes most of Kenner. “This is history in the making.”
