Fireplace Logs or Glass

When designing your fireplace there are so many options. If you are choosing a gas fireplace then you will need to choose a media. Fire glass and gas logs are two options. Which one is your choice as they both have great features.

Gas logs are a great choice, especially over burning wood. Gas Logs are easier, cleaner and safer. You do not have to worry about logs moving or having to add logs to keep your fire going. Gas logs are composed of ceramic refractory cement that has steel rods to withstand high temperatures and give extra support. To get the real look of wood, the gas logs are placed into molds that are cast from real tree samples.

Once the logs are created, they are then hand-painted to look realistic. When using gas logs, many think they are looking at a real wood-burning fireplace. Their visual appeal is one of their greatest characteristics and they do not produce carbon emissions. They give off a great sparkling fire without the dangers and inconveniences associated with real burning wood.

There are two types of gas logs, vented or ventfree/unvented. Vented is the most popular because they look the most realistic and have a more natural-looking flame pattern. Ventfree/unvented gas logs are great for heating large or small spaces.

Fire glass is a great choice as well. It is made from tempered glass and is weather resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures. Again, fire glass does not emit harmful chemicals, smoke, ash, or soot. This material is great for indoor or outdoor gas fires and can be used in both fireplaces and fire pits. There is very little maintenance and they do not lose their color. This is a great choice if you want to cover all the pipes and tubes that are visible in your gas fireplace.

This media is great for a designer’s touch and is perfect for ambiance. The fire glass is not a good heat source but has a longer burn season. The glass not only covers pipes and tubes but gives off beautiful light. Their stunning appearance when lit by fire is dramatic and artistic.

Either choice, you can’t go wrong. If you are looking for a heat source, gas logs are the best option but if you are looking for beauty and style, fire glass is best.
