Storms can not only be devastating but can be an inconvenience as well. If you live in an area that is prone to tornadoes, thunderstorms, hail, high winds and hurricanes, you need to be prepared. Here are several ways to help ensure that your property is ready for any storms that come your way. 
Start With the Basics – A Strong Structure
Brick homes have withstood storms for over a hundred years. Having protected families and irreplaceable items. Bricks are made of clay and shale which is combined and baked at high temperatures. The brick can withstand a lot. If you are planning on building a home, then choose brick for your exterior. It should be at the top of anyone’s list for storm preparation.

Before a storm even hits, you should establish a personal weather information lifeline. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has an app that you can download on your smartphone. You will receive real-time alerts from not only the National Weather Service and text covering over twenty types of disasters.
Check the exterior of the home.
You want to make sure the shingles on your roof are in working order. Make sure they are not rippled looking, loose or have fallen to the ground. Also make sure the siding on your home is in place and in good condition. If there are branches extending over your home, then those need to be cut down. Make sure that the gutters are free of debris and firmly attached in place.
