A Perfect Outdoor Entertainment Space For Any Season
It’s an age-old saying that sitting outside under the sun for a bit every day will do wonders. When COVID hit, being able to have an outdoor space was paramount. Recent research on the spending patterns of Americans on outdoor entertainment spaces and landscaping tell an interesting tale.
According to a recent study, three-quarters of US homeowners say an outdoor space is a must. The study asked 2,000 homeowners who had an outdoor space if it helped during COVID. Seventy-three percent of homeowners said that spending time outdoors helped. Since the pandemic, more people spend three hours more a week outside. Seven out of ten of the homeowners interviewed said they are also improving their current outdoor living spaces.
TruGreen conducted a study called the “One Poll” and those asked said they had spent over $1,910.99 on their outdoor living spaces during COVID. Broken down, $414.67 on new outdoor furniture and $377.49 on outdoor entertaining equipment. Four in ten also said they purchased a fire pit or outdoor fireplace.
If you live in a milder climate, then your outdoor space is used all year, but if you live in a colder climate, you only have a few months out of the year to enjoy your outdoor space. When designers are designing an outdoor space, they are not focusing on the practical side of things. That means it looks great and is wonderful during the mild times but cannot be used during the colder months. In order for an outdoor space to be usable all year round, an engineered outdoor heater needs to be installed.
“The best way to heat an outdoor area is through radiant heat. Radiant heat warms objects, not the air, like the experience of the sun warming your skin. This is fundamentally different from traditional outdoor fire sources,” explains Brit Stokes of Acme Brick.
“Because of this focus on objects and not air, radiant heaters are wind resistant and can still warm people even in mild wind conditions. This method involves projecting infrared heat radiation onto people rather than moving warm air into the outdoor patio,” Britt goes on to say.
“Radiant heating is the foundation for all Bromic heaters. When properly specified, Bromic can heat any outdoor space more effectively than many competitors because of the principle,” Britt explains.
When you are planning to create an outdoor space, you want to follow these steps in preparing the space for Bromic heaters. First, you will need to define your outdoor space. You will want to figure out how much space is open and how much space is covered. For example, a patio is partially covered which can cause a heat cloud. A heat cloud is when heat is captured inside a structure and acts like convectional heating. It is very important to determine what type and amount of heating your structure needs.
Next, you will need to understand the different types of heat. When planning a heating source for an outdoor space, you need to understand which is the most effective. Also, the most important factor when it comes to heating an outdoor space is manipulating the direction of the heat. This follows into the power source which are natural gas, liquid propane and electric. Depending on the space confinement, cost of preparations, and availability of utilities will determine which of the three traditional fuels you will use.
Having an outdoor living space that can be used throughout the year is the best option. Heating the space is easy, once you determine your needs and wants. If you want to make sure your addition will benefit the value of your home, speak to a local realtor.
