How To Make Sure Your Crawl Space Is Energy Efficient
Encapsulating a crawl space can add value to your home and make it more energy efficient. A builder from Texas shared his experience of encapsulating a crawl space when he completely gutted a home for renovation down to the studs. Everything in the home was replaced except for the original framing.
The builder decided to encapsulate the crawl space not only for the protection of the interior of the home but also for resale value. He decided to use the StegoCrawl Crawl Space Encapsulation System and went with the StegCrawl Wrap 15-mil Vapor Barrier. The system actually has resources and videos that you can watch which helps you with the DIY aspect.
Once the system was in place, the crawlspace looked professionally done. In fact, the space went from a dark, damp, dirty space to a bright, clean usable space with air conditioning! The system helps with improving the home’s indoor air quality which in turn helps keep an HVAC system running efficiently.
“It’s a big calming space, big and white, silent. There were a couple of days where I just laid down there to relax,” says the builder.
Once the renovation was complete, the builder listed the home and made sure to include the encapsulated crawl space in the listing’s description.
“The perception (in the industry), until now, is that if you don’t have (vented/outside) air down there, you’re going to have (moisture) issues. Of course, (we now know) it’s the inverse. In a hot and humid climate, (if you allow that hot and humid air in), you’re going to get issues,” explains the builder.
