Metairie Library Renovation and Addition on the Horizon

The Wagner Library branch in Metairie has already seen construction starting on the new 1,752-square-foot addition. This is part of the $1.36 million project that will include some renovations to the existing building along with the new addition. The new addition will include a meeting room and several study rooms.

Jefferson Parish libraries have large meeting rooms but the Wagner branch was one of the few locations that did not. Jessica Styons, who is the director of the Jefferson Parish library system, believes that large meeting rooms are a very important part of the library. It is a place where the community can connect with each other, as well as the library connecting to the community.

One of the big things this will help with is storytime. The larger area will allow for larger storytime gatherings as well as teen programs. “This way they can do more and the kids can be louder,” Styons says.

As for the renovations a big part will be replacing part of the roof and adding a new HVAC unit. It will also include more parking, adding ramps at the building entrance and reconfiguring the sidewalks. RCL Architecture LLC and Tasch LLC are not only working on this project but are also building the new Avondale branch.
