Lime offers many different functions when used alone or in combination with other ingredients. Mortar Mix, for example, combines cement with lime for better water resistance and better bonding. Lime improves the workability and plasticity of mortar. Depending on the application, some masons add additional lime to mortar mix to purposely reduce the strength and hardness of the mortar, such as when laying certain very soft old brick.
Another popular use of lime is its addition to plaster and stucco for both interior and exterior projects. Even though lime is renowned for preventing water leakage, its use also results in improved elasticity which allows for some expansion and contracting without cracking.
Masonry Products stocks Hydrated Lime for use in mortar and stucco, Finishing Lime for interior wall and ceiling finishes, and Hydraulic Lime for restoration and preservation.
