Royal Carriages From the French Quarter to the Northshore
Royal Carriages has been a New Orleans staple in the French Quarter for eighty years. COVID-19 hit and New Orleans shut down. The owners of Royal Carriages, founded in 1941, decided to take advantage of the downtime in the French Quarter and expand to the Northshore.
“I never got to meet my grandfather, so I think he’d be pretty proud,” says James Lauga, General Manager of Royal Carriages.
The mule-drawn tour through the Northshore will include highlights such as the Tammany Trace Trailhead, Bogue Falaya Park, and The Southern Hotel. During the ride, the guide will narrate the sites and lead a historic trivia game. The historic trivia was given by Covington Mayor Mark Johnson.
“You know these mules don’t get enough credit,” says Lauga. “They not only pull our carriages, but they helped build this country, especially this area, they helped build New Orleans and that’s the story that we’re telling now.”
