Will There Be a New Mixed-Use Development Coming to Kenner?
The Esplanade in Kenner has been purchased by Pacifica Square USA, an Illinois-based real estate investment group. The group hopes to develop the property into a mixed-use development with partner Windfall USA.
“Everything is up in the air,” said Marshall Nguyen of Pacifica Square USA.
The 700,000 square foot space sits vacant along with the Macy’s building. They hope to turn the space into a mix of apartments, shops and restaurants. This has already been done with the former Clearview Mall that sits five miles away. The Macy’s building was being leased by the City of Kenner but the lease has been terminated since December 2022.
“It’s better to have taxpaying businesses in that location than city government,” says Mayor Michael Glaser.
The live, work and play development will hopefully have a grocery store, hotel, food hall and apartments as well as businesses. If they do get approved and the development comes to Kenner, it will then be comparable to those mixed-use developments in the French Quarter.
Developers want the input of Kenner residents so they have created a Facebook group where residents can ask questions and stay informed about the progress of the project.
“Our success is going to be very dependent on the support of the community,” Nguyen said. “When you take care of the community, they’ll take care of you.”
