This means that the fire will not get to your interior until after one and a half hours! Vinyl or fiber-cement will only withstand thirty minutes.
Brick can also withstand natural disasters better than other exterior materials. The Wind Science and Engineering Research Center at Texas Tech University did a survey that confirmed that brick homes were protected better during windblown debris than other materials like vinyl and fiber-cement siding.
All in all, natural clay brick is safer and has less maintenance. Brick homes have traditionally held or enhanced their value over generations because they do not require the constant upkeep—painting, replacement of worn-out siding or wood, and other maintenance—that other building materials require. This is important nowadays because homeowners are starting to stay in their homes for decades.
